"Celebrating Milestones in the Mission of the Pune Province in Uganda”
On 8th May 2024, The inauguration of the second residence of the Brothers in Uganda took place, it marked an important milestone in the mission of the Province of Pune in Uganda. The event, graced by the presence of Rt. Rev. Paul Ssemogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala, Bro. JAICO Gervasis, Provincial Superior of Pune, Mr. Charles, Parliament Member in Uganda, Mr. Matia Lwanga, District Governor, Mr. Ronald Kalema, Mayor of Katabi Town Council, Bro. Bosco and Bro. Albert from East Africa Province, Bro. Linto and Bro. Joseph P. T from India, and other dignitaries, were present for this occasion.
It is a significant day as one year after the 350th Birth Anniversary of our Founder, St. Louis Marie De Montfort, the first residence of the brothers was inaugurated in Kyebando on 31st January 2024. The inauguration of the brothers’ residence here in Mpala coincides with the 340th Birth Anniversary of Blessed Marie Louise Trichet, the cofounder of the daughter wisdom, as well as the feast of Mary Mediatrix of all graces.
The reflections on our missionary journey, which began in the western France has brought us to Uganda now, we recall the missionary dynamism instilled in us by Father Gabriel Deshayes. The mission in Uganda by the province of Pune is the result of the decisions taken during our 32nd General Chapter, where we were called to expand to newer territories.
The decision to establish a presence in Uganda was further solidified by the warm welcome that we received from the local dioceses, particularly from Archbishop Ssemogerere. We are too grateful to all those who played a role in making these endeavours possible. In particular, the local parish priest, Fr. Joseph Kirumira, and the fathers, Brothers, Sisters, and members of the parish and town councils who welcomed us with open arms.
The project was made possible through the support of the former Superior General Bro. John Kallarackal along with his team and the financial aid from the Province of Canada through the Romain Landry fund. It was a collaborative effort that involved the dedication of many individuals, including the local Superior, Bro. Sandeep Marneni, and the Architect, Mr. Arthur, who worked tirelessly to ensure the completion of the residence.
Looking to the future, we have laid the foundation stone for the school on the same day, expressing our desire to establish a school that would nurture altruistic leaders who would transform society, embodying the spirit of universal brotherhood and sisterhood that defines our mission. We have confidence that with the support of our brothers and community and well-wishers, we would continue to add value to the Pearl of Africa.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported us on our journey, reaffirming our commitment to serve with energy and enthusiasm, guided by the divine mission that unites us all.
Bro. Sandeep Marneni, SG
