Visit of Vicar General to the Province of Malaysia – Singapore
Now nearly a week since I left Rome… and since then I do not know what the sun is, because I have not seen it for a moment whether in Singapore or in Kuala Lumpur. Much to say about the pollution from fires in Indonesia that destroy scrubs and forests and in particular the palm tree plantations. According to the newspaper, this should change next week, due to changes in the winds. Many people come out with respiratory protection.
Along with Brother Maurice Hérault and Brother Thomas Paul (Malay), respectively secretary and under secretary of the partnership, our primary mission is to meet different groups of lay people, to know them, answer their questions and see how we can develop the partnership network. At the same time, I personally met the Brothers of this small Province.
Even though, I come from another culture, it is an opportunity and a personal enrichment to meet the Brothers and to discover their beautiful mission. For example, yesterday (2nd October) in the Boystown, we took part in the celebrations of the founding Brothers (three Canadians and one French) who launched the Institution in 1959, 56 years ago. There was mass for the volunteers, including Hindus and Buddhists.
Brother Yvan Passebon and Brother Maurice Hérault paid a last visit to Bro. Jean. They attended a prayer service along with the Montfortian Associates for the repose of the soul of the late Bro. Jean-Denis Gervais in Singapore. Bro. Denis passed away on the evening of 29 September 2015 at the age of 85. He had suffered cancer of the prostate and of the bones in his final years. Bro. Denis was born on 7 March 1930 in Quebec, Canada. He arrived in Singapore in 1967 and served as a Math and Science teacher in St. Gabriel’s Secondary School until his retirement in 2002. Bro. Denis will be remembered for his great cheerfulness and love.”
Here are some echoes of the visit of Vicar General to Singapore and Malaysia.
