ST. GABRIEL’S NOVITIATE, SITAGARH FIRST PROFESSION, 2018
The Novices of St. Gabriel’s Novitiate, Sitagarha, had the long awaited day of their First Profession on 8thMay 2018. Exactly, three months prior to this event, we had the most spectacular and memorable Golden Jubilee Celebration. The Golden Jubilee Celebration will surely be a memorable one to all those who witnessed it, especially the Novices of this batch. It’s my joy to write a few lines about the First Profession of the Golden Jubilee batch of Novices. God had been gracious to this house and to the Congregation of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel down the years. This year we are blessed with 32 young men, who said their generous “Yes” to the Lord.
We began the First Profession Mass with the entrance procession and a dance by the students of St. Gabriel’s School, Dhawaiya. There were over hundred parents of the newly professed who came from far and near to pray, participate and witness this great act of commitment of their wards to the Lord. The Novices began the ceremony with a prayer at the statue of St. Louis Mary de Montfort and went in procession with lighted ‘diyas’ (lamps) to the altar. As their names were called out by the Novice Master, each one responded by saying: “Here I am” and placed the diyas at the lampstand near the altar, as a symbol of their surrender to the Lord.
The Eucharistic Celebration was at 5.00 pm, with Bishop Anand Jojo, Bishop of Hazaribag, as the main Celebrant, along with concelebrants. The Bishop enriched us with a beautiful message on the theme: “COMMITMENT TO YOUR CALLING… IN CONSTANCY AND CONSISTENCY”. He said that we should receive strength from the Lord to be committed to our calling by being with the Lord. We should be able to work zealously for the betterment of those underprivileged sections of our society, in constancy and consistency, trusting the Lord even in the midst of problems.
After the Profession, we had a very short felicitation programme at St. Gabriel’s House. All the newly professed were felicitated with a garland by their respective Provincials. The felicitation programme was followed by fellowship dinner for all the invitees and guests. The moments of celebration have passed, but the awesome memories of this celebration will remain forever.
On the following day, all the newly professed left for home visit and they will return to their respective Provincial Houses by end of May or the first week of June 2018.
