World Day of the Consecrated Life

On 2nd February 2022, a virtual celebration on the World Day of the Consecrated Life was organized by the National Formation Commission of India in collaboration with the St. Gabriel’s Novitiate, Sitagarha. Bro. Varghese M, the National Convener of the Formation in India and Provincial Superior of North-East India organized the entire event. There were nearly 300 participants including the novices from two novitiates in India.

The celebration started with the welcoming of the participants by Bro. James Ekka, the National Chairman of the National Council of India. Then, Bro. Paul Raj, the Principal of the CRI Brothers’ Institute, Bengaluru gave an introduction about the World Day of the Consecrated Life and the life of the consecrated persons and he concluded his introduction by focusing on the challenges that are involved in living the consecrated life as Brothers. He pointed out the importance of nurturing and sustaining the Religious Brothers in the Church.

The novices from St. Gabriel’s Novitiate animated the prayer service, inviting everyone to pray earnestly for the welfare of the Brothers of the Congregation and for all the consecrated persons of the world. The Gospel Reading was read by Bro. Sudhakar Reddy and reflection on the Gospel reading was given by Bro. Varghese Mandapathil. A Brother from each province put forth their intercession prayers to Jesus through Mary. Bro. Jean-Paul M, the Assistant General and in-charge of the Formation concluded the prayer service.

Bro. Superior General in his address, at the end of the gathering, thanked everyone involved in organizing the virtual celebration. In his address, he touched upon the background of the World Day of the Consecrated Life. Then, quoting Pope Francis’ Apostolic Letter, he exhorted the participants “to look at the past with gratitude, to live the present with passion and to embrace the future with hope.” He congratulated all the Brothers who actively take part in various activities of the Conference of Religious India (CRI) at the diocesan and regional levels.

The celebration concluded with the vote of thanks by Bro. Herman Lakra, the Provincial Superior of Ranchi.
