The closing ceremony at Pontchateau
September 11, 2016, was marked as an important day in Montfortian history, as we officially closed the Tercentenary of the Death of our Founder, St. Montfort. The closing ceremony was held at Pontchateau, in front of the “Scala Sancta”, a huge monument that has just been restored. The ceremony was attended by 3,000 pilgrims from various regions of France, including Fathers, Brothers and Sisters of the Montfortian Family. The closing ceremony was divided in two parts. The first part was a Solemn Mass presided over by Bishop Jean-Paul James, Bishop of the Diocese of Nantes, who gave a very inspiring homely. The second part, on « Reviving the Joy of my Baptism », was held in the afternoon and presided over by Fr. Santino Brembilla, Superior General of the Montfort Missionaries. This celebration was directly inspired by what Montfort did at the end of his parochial missions. It dealt with three major themes: the Bible – the Word of God , the baptismal font, and the Virgin Mary. At the end of the day, each of the three Superiors General gave a final address to the assembly.
