“Suranaree Games”-  Assumption University, Thailand.

Rev. Bro. Bancha Saenghiran, President of Assumption University, together with Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, Vice President for Student Affairs, presided over the commentary ceremony for the 44th Thailand University Games or “Suranaree Games” on February 14, 2017 at the Lobby of Cathedral of Learning.

The objectives of the commentary ceremony are to deliver the inspiring thoughts and provide the moral support to Assumption University athletes and the coaches who will participate in the Ugames 44. Assumption University will send 172 athletes from 16 sport teams and one demonstrated sport to participate in this event. Ugames 44 will be from February 21 to March 2, 2017

The motto of this 44th Thai University Games is “Games for Opportunity, Life and Friendship”, hosted by Suranaree University of Technology. The lucky mascot for the games are Korat cats or Si Sawad Cats. The female cat’s name is Nong Naree and the male cat’s name is Pee Sura.

And on March 28, 2017, Assumption University organized the “Congratulatory Dinner” as a congratulating and appreciating ceremony for the athletes and the coaches by giving scholarships to all athletes who won the medals, namely 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 12 bronze medals ; total of 23 medals, from 392 medals. Assumption University ranked 24 out of 114 Universities and 15,000 athletes and coaches, participated in this Ugames all around the country this year. Congratulations to all.

As for your information, Assumption University, this year, has many religious members joining our spiritual exercises and meals while studying at Assumption University: 5 Thai Brothers, 2 Brothers from Senegal, 3 Sisters from Myanmar, 3 Sisters from Vietnam, 2 Marianist Brothers from India, 1 Indian Priest, 2 Lovers of Holy Cross Sisters from Ubonratchatani Diocese. This is one part of our community project to help the Religious by giving them scholarships for their studies, lodgings and meals.
