March against Hunger in the little world of ST.GABRIEL

March against Hunger in the little world of ST.GABRIEL – ARANDA DE  DUERO – St.MIGUEL – ROA:

Over thousand students from the schools of the Claretians, of the Dominican Sisters, of Vera Cruz, of St.Gabriel and St.Miguel participated, on May 20th, in the first March against Hunger organized by these schools in partnership with the NGO ‘Action against Hunger‘, engaged in fighting hunger. It was the first time that such an initiative had taken place in Aranda de Duero, though hunger marches have been organized for 18 years all over the world to fight malnutrition affecting over 66 millions children.

The March against Hunger is a supportive, educational and sporting initiative to educate children, young people and society in general, about the causes and consequences of hunger and to urge them to contribute to the solution of the problem.

For every lap and kilometre walked or run, the families and friends of the students hand over a modest donation to the humanitarian organization which then invests the funds collected in projects to fight malnutrition in countries such as the Philippines, Mali, Bolivia or Burkina Faso.

This March against Hunger was sponsored by the Ministry for Education, Culture and Sports, the Post Office and Santillana, just to name a few sponsors.

The March was launched at half past 10 p. m. from the Plaza Mayor (major square) of Aranda, went along the Paseo de la Virgen de las Viñas (avenue of the Virgin of the Vineyards), stopped at the Ciudad del Bienestar (well-being City), went on, with stops on the playgrounds of the schools of Vera Cruz, Claret and the Dominicans. The final stop was of course at the Plaza Mayor, where a flash-move was danced to celebrate equity and solidarity, the whole thing turning the public square into the venue of a morning feast full of music and colour.

The team responsible for this report and its publication insist on thanking Itre for their efficient and disinterested collaboration, and the local Authorities of Aranda de Duero, the Police, Actisport, Calidad Pascual, GSK, the LUPA Supermarkets.

Heartfelt thanks to every one for your help and participation.
